Pereira extends Man Utd contract

Manchester United have announced that Andreas Pereira has signed a new four-year deal at Old Trafford, with an option to extend for a further year.

The 23-year-old joined our youth academy from PSV Eindhoven in 2011 and has gone on to make 35 appearances for the first-team to date.

Pereira has previously had loan spells in La Liga with both Granada (2016-17) and Valencia (2017-18). The Brazilian saw more game time at Manchester United towards the end of last season under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

His one and only cap for the Brazil national team to date came against the USA in 2018.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was full of praise for the 23-year-old in his interview with MUTV:

“Andreas is another player brought through our Academy that understands what it means to play for Manchester United. He came from another country but quickly understood the values of playing for this club and doesn’t take it for granted.

“Andreas has become an important member of the squad with his energy and hard work in midfield. He works non-stop every day in training, has a great character and knows what he has to do to continue his development here. We all look forward to working with him in the season ahead.”

Following the departure of Ander Herrera to Paris Saint-Germain this summer, Andreas Pereira could expect much more game time in the centre of the park should we not find a replacement before the start of our 2019-20 campaign.

Pereira is a technically gifted player in central midfield.
