Four players Jose Mourinho could axe this summer

Jose Mourinho could have a busy summer ahead at Old Trafford, with a host of names potentially set to be axed from his squad and several fresh faces possibly ready to arrive on the scene as replacements.

The Portuguese tactician has made it clear what he expects and demands from his current crop of Manchester United stars, with some of the roster having been the subject of personal criticism from the boss.

While the likes of Real Madrid pass master Toni Kroos and emerging Napoli midfield talent Jorginho have been linked with high-profile moves to the Red Devils, there are many present players being primed for the exit door to make room.

The Premier League title has sickeningly been secure by bitter rivals Manchester City this current campaign, but Mourinho’s men are still in the hunt for silverware success with an FA Cup triumph, a feat which they are 5/2 to achieve in the football betting this season.

With Mourinho likely to build a new set-up this summer, which includes fresh arrivals, here are four current stars that could potentially head in the opposite direction in the coming months.

Matteo Darmian

Italy international full-back Matteo Darmian arrived at the club full of promise and expectations were immediately high, following impressive displays at Serie A outfit Torino.

But the now 28-year-old has struggled to gain any sort of form or momentum, particularly this season under the guidance of Mourinho. The Legnano native also recently hinted an exit himself, seemingly opening the door for a switch back to his home nation with the top-flight division’s dominant force Juventus.

Paul Pogba

Possibly a surprise name next on the list of potential departures, but speculation still surrounds France international midfielder Paul Pogba, despite a surge in form of late.

The former Juventus playmaker has endured a mixed 2017/18 campaign, performing gallantly at times with his wide range of passing abilities from the centre, but also going missing a lot during the most important clashes of the season.

It’s evident Pogba has the ability to become Man Utd’s main man next season, if he can focus and gain consistency in the Premier League. But his relationship with Mourinho has reportedly come under the spotlight, with Real Madrid’s supposed interest in acquiring him not helping matters at all.

Anthony Martial

Since bursting on to the Man Utd scene with that incredible goal against Liverpool, Anthony Martial has become somewhat of a fan favourite and an attack-minded player that supporters love to see on the teamsheet.

Although, he has struggled for consistency too this term, being limited to playing time domestically and failing to fully live up to early hopes and expectations placed upon him. A crazy link with Arsenal has come to the fray in recent weeks, but if Mourinho was to actually want to offload the talented French youngster, it would be abroad and not to one his fellow top-tier rivals.

Luke Shaw

England defender Luke Shaw has been linked with an Old Trafford exit since ties with Mourinho have become clearly frustrating. The former Southampton left-back was previously seen as the future of that position at his current club, but a lack of fitness and several injury setbacks have hampered his progress and development.

If any player is to ultimately depart the club this summer, it would likely be Shaw. His public bashing from his own boss could have been the final straw, despite teammates jumping to his defence. The future of the left back talent doesn’t look too promising in red at the moment.
